Detroit FlyOut 2024

Detroit, MI
August 22-25, 2024

About the FlyOut

detroit skylineDetroit was founded in 1701 and grew into an important hub for  industry in the great lakes region. This made it an attractive location for one of the newest industries in the early 20th century:  American automotive manufacturing, with Ford, General Motors and Stellantis (Chrysler) all calling it home.

With over 16 million visitors a year, Detroit offers much to the traveller, including some excellent museums, which will be part of our summer visit.

Activity Highlights

WINGS Safety Seminar

USPA safety seminars are open to everyone, and we encourage local pilots to attend whether they are USPA members or not. The safety seminar will include a guest speaker on a safety-related topic of interest and is eligible for WINGS credits.

Please note that the WINGS Safety Seminar is at a different airport than group coordinated airport and FBO.

Henry Ford Museum

The "Henry Ford Museum" is actually four different museums/activities, comprised of the Henry Ford Museum of Innovation, the Greenfield Village, the Ford Rouge factory tour and the Giant Screen experience.

The Museum of Innovation offers the opportunity to step into a world where past innovations fuel the imagination of generations to come. A vibrant exploration of genius in all its forms, Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation allows you to experience the strides of America’s greatest minds while fully immersing yourself in their stories. Step inside the bus where Rosa Parks took a stand by taking a seat. Play pilot as you explore flight innovations, starting with the Wright brothers' achievements, or make yourself at home inside Buckminster Fuller’s circular Dymaxion House.

Experience firsthand the sights, sounds and sensations of America’s fascinating formation in Greenfield Village, where over 80 acres brim with resourcefulness and ingenuity. Here, 300 years of American perseverance serve as a living reminder that anything is possible. Step foot in the lab where Thomas Edison had his lightbulb moment or the workshop where the Wright brothers taught us to reach for the sky. Take a ride in a real Model T, or a walk through four working farms. Rub shoulders with world-class artisans, and explore the place where America’s can-do spirit inspires you to go out and get it done.

If you'd like to see firsthand how modern automobiles are manufactured, the Rouge factory tour offers the opportunity to see first hand the amazing choreograph of activity at the Ford Dearborn truck plant.

Yankee Air Museum

The Yankee Air Museum is a Smithsonian-affiliated aerospace and science museum with rare historical aircraft ranging from World War I to the Gulf War.  exhibits and dioramas tell stories as diverse as the role of women in wartime manufacturing, Aircraft, Naval and Marine aircraft history and the Tuskegee airmen.
