Detroit, MI welcomed the group at Willow Run Airport (KYIP). Founded in 1701, Detroit grew into a major Great Lakes industrial hub and became a cornerstone of early 20th-century American automotive manufacturing, with Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis (Chrysler) all calling it home, and the city draws millions of visitors with standout museums.
The trip included a WINGS Safety Seminar with a guest speaker, visits to the Henry Ford Museum complex—featuring the Museum of American Innovation, Greenfield Village, the Ford Rouge factory tour, and the Giant Screen experience—and time at the Smithsonian-affiliated Yankee Air Museum with historic aircraft and exhibits spanning World War I through the Gulf War, plus time to explore Detroit’s art and music museums, architecture, waterfront, parks, and diverse restaurants.
